Standing water after the cycle, cloudy glasses or a door that drops open on its own? A local technician finds the cause, explains the repair before starting, and fixes the dishwasher without pulling your kitchen apart.

No. 02 · What goes wrong
These are the calls we get when a dishwasher starts acting up. Each one lists the usual causes and a safe check you can do before booking a visit.
When hot water takes a long time to reach the kitchen, the dishwasher heats cold water itself and the cycle stretches.
A weak element or a sensor reading the wrong temperature keeps the dishwasher waiting for heat it never gets.
Sensor cycles add extra rinses when the water looks dirty, often because of a clogged filter.
Run the kitchen faucet on hot until the water is warm, then start the dishwasher. Clean the filter at the bottom of the tub once a month.
A latch that no longer catches stops the cycle from starting and can let the door pop open.
When a spring or cable snaps on one side, the door drops open hard and sits crooked.
A dishwasher that shifted in the cabinet opening no longer lines up with its strike.
Open the door halfway and let go. If it falls flat or leans to one side, stop using it and call us before the hinge or tub gets damaged.
A burned element leaves dishes cool and wet and makes grease harder to wash off.
The control never sees the right temperature, so it never turns the heat on.
The board may stop sending power to a perfectly good heater.
Open the door right after a cycle. If the dishes and the tub are only lukewarm, the heating part of the system is not working.
The small cap next to the faucet clogs with food and pushes drain water back into the sink.
On new disposals the plug inside the dishwasher inlet has to be knocked out, or water has nowhere to go.
A hose pinched under the sink or packed with debris backs water up on every drain.
Run the garbage disposal for a few seconds, then clean the air gap cap. If water still comes back, the drain hose needs a look.
Not sure which one you have? We will find out.
