A drum full of water, a machine that walks across the floor on spin or a door that will not unlock? A local technician tracks down the cause, explains the fix before starting, and repairs the washer right in your laundry room.

No. 02 · What goes wrong
These are the calls we get when a washer starts acting up. Each one lists the usual causes and a safe check you can do before booking a visit.
Lint, coins and hair pins slow the water down so the final spin cannot get the drum dry.
When towels or a single blanket bunch up on one side, the washer cuts the spin short to protect itself.
A worn belt on many top-load and older front-load models spins the drum too slowly to pull water out.
Spread a few towels evenly in the drum and run Drain and Spin on its own. If the clothes still come out dripping, clean the drain filter behind the small panel at the bottom front.
The small screens where the hoses connect catch grit from the water line, so the washer waits and waits to fill.
If the pressure sensor misreads the water level, the washer keeps adding water or pauses the cycle.
A load that keeps tipping off balance makes the washer stop, tumble and try again, adding long minutes to the timer.
Make sure both water valves behind the washer are fully open and the hoses are not kinked when the machine is pushed back.
Garage and laundry room humidity can reach the motor or pump connections and short them to ground.
Front-load models with a built-in water heater can trip the circuit when that heater fails.
A cord pinched behind the machine or a scorched plug sends the breaker off as soon as the cycle starts.
Reset the GFCI outlet and plug the washer straight into the wall, never an extension cord. If it trips again, unplug it and call us.
Many washers have a child lock that freezes every button. A lock icon on the display is the clue.
Buttons pressed thousands of times stop registering, usually the Start button first.
A storm outage and the spike when power returns can leave the board dead or acting at random.
Look for a lock symbol and check your manual for the button you hold to switch it off. Then unplug the washer for one minute and try again.
Not sure which one you have? We will find out.
